With partly coloured illustrations by Josef Hoffmann, Friedr. König, Adolf Böhm, Leop. Böhm, Rudolf Jettmar. - With interesting advertising page. - One of only 300 copies. - "Ver Sacrum" was the official organ of the Vienna Secession, which was founded in 1897 and whose president was the painter Gustav Klimt. The architects Josef Hoffmann and Jospeh Maria Olbrich were leading members. Their work and that of Koloman Moser were particularly important in this leading Art Nouveau magazine, of which a total of 6 volumes were published between 1898 and 1903. The general geometric character of Austrian Art Nouveau is clearly expressed in the pages of "Ver Sacrum". The high graphic quality makes "Ver Sacrum" the "most elegant of all periodicals" (The Art Press, p. 9f.). - Turn of a Century 120; Nebehay, Ver Sacrum 1898-1903 (1975); Arntzen/Rainwater Q338; From Art Nouveau to Bauhaus (1981), no. 20.
