It is a "surimono", my forethoughts on how best to hang the Japanese exhibition that is such a mark of esteem for my drawings. So this is just a guide to "Hanging Janssen?. HOW TO HANG JANSSEN? / Janssen exhibitions in general don't interest me AT ALL. Janssen exhibitions that exhibit the name, regardless what is on the paper, don't interest me - not being able to stop them, I simply don't pay them any attention. I would soonest have no exhibitions whatever. In good time I have preserved what I have to say in a few books. My drawings are predestined for collection in book form. In 10 years my work will, for the most part, be gathered together in books. When I exhibit my sketches I do so only at my friends' places. / Another matter: I am now bound for Japan in 1991. Japan is arranging a major exhibition for me that will tour four, five or six cities, I believe. I am looking forward enormously to this exhibition. 1991 is going to give me nothing but pleasure. The exhibition will show in a very condensed form a cross- section of my work since 1957. I am delighted. The 900 or so exhibits are to be selected at St. Gertrude, in collaboration with my Japanese hosts. I have been grateful to entrust to my old friend Løska Smith-Hald of Oslo the preparatory and accompanying correspondence and the organisation of the exhibition whilst it is on show. After Japan she will be taking the exhibition to the Munch Museum, Oslo. Løska Smith-Hald of Oslo and Dierk Lemcke of St. Gertrude, Hamburg, are exclusively authorised to look after my interests with the Japanese who have done me the honour of inviting me. ISBN 3923848239
