Beschreibung:

8°., 190 pp. Contemporary mottled calf with gilt spine Cioranescu 34760; cf. Barbier II, 864. Early or first edition (it is unclear if there is a 1760 edition). Contains stories about amourous women that are inspired by real life ladies of French society. The motto is "fabulae narrari creduntur, historiae sunt". The author Desboulmiers (1731-1771) later collected a few more stories in enlarged editions. Here the adventures of the comtesse de D., une comedienne, la marmotte parvenue, madame de Villemont, Suzette etc. - The imprint is probably from Paris, not London as stated on the title-pages. - The pretty binding rubbed and with some wormholes, still decorative. From the library of the last Prince-Bishop of Würzburg Georg Karl Ignaz von Fechenbach zu Laudenbach (1749?1808) with his engraved bookplate and small inscription to the title.
