Farbenprächtiger Blick vom europäischen zuam asiatischen Teil der Stadt. - Emma Borrmann (Wien 1887 - Riverside 1974) österreichische Malerin nund Graphikerin, bereiste 1929 die Türkei. Emma Bormann (* June 29, 1887 in Döbling near Vienna; ? December 28, 1974 in Riverside (USA)) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist. She lived in East Asia and the USA for almost thirty years. She created her first woodcut in 1918, and the woodcut became her most popular means of expression. "The woodcut... is obviously the technical process that most corresponds to her intentions, but her work is not lacking in etchings and lithographs either,? wrote the art historian Arpad Weixlgärtner in 1922.She exhibited for the first time at the Künstlerhaus in Vienna in 1920. From 1920 onwards, she traveled extensively in Europe, and in 1936 to the USA. After her forced leave of absence in 1939, she went to China, where she lived in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beihai and Beijing until 1950. She then returned to Europe via Japan, Hawaii and the USA, which she visited until 1953. From 1953, Bormann lived in Tokyo, from where she traveled within Japan and to Asia. From 1957, she lived alternately with her two daughters in Tokyo and Riverside (California, USA). She visited Vienna for the last time in 1973. She died in Riverside on December 1974. Her favorite subjects were city views seen from above r. Apart from Vienna, her prints are mainly to be found in art collections in English-speaking countries, e.g. in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the British Museum.
