Beschreibung:

8°., XXXVI, 260 pp.. Contemporary half-calf Uncommon first edition by Breysig of this Latin poem based on the Phainomena of Aratus. The author is not quite clear, "Germanicus Caesar" could stand for Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus as well as Tiberius who were both interested in astrology. - This copy is from the library of the Scottish classicist John Wight Duff (1866?1944). It has his bookplate, inscription and many notes to the text in pencil and black ink. Endpapers with further notes. The book then came into the library of the German scholar Rudolf Pfeiffer and some underlining in pencil might be by him. - Pages 15-16 with an old mended tear (loss of text, almost half the leaf gone), else normal traces of use, rubbed. - Interesting provenance and extensive marginalia.
