Later half-cloth, original illustrated front covers bound in First edition of this amply illustrated work with several maps and itinerary plans. The lieutenant-colonel de Burthe d'Annelet travelled extensively through the French colonies in Africa. He explored new routes and gathered information for the Ministere des Colonies as well as for the Musée d Histoire naturelle. Here he wants to present his findings and experiences to a wider public, many photos were taken by himself. They show the people and their habits, buidlings, instruments, arms etc. - Very good copy withdrawn from an institute of oriental studies with several small stamps, labels to the spine but no tape and no visible traces of use, just some signs of age, paper somewhat browned, only the bound in wrappers with some staining, else mostly clean. Due to the stamps (strongly taken into account with the price!) this is not for the bibliophile but a very good copy for the interested reader or scholar.
