Beschreibung:

8°., XX, 532 pp.. Blue-half-calf with marbled boards and endpapers (probably arounf 1900) Cioranescu 30691. First edition, uncommon work by Madame de Genlis (1746-1830) who new many of the eminent thinkers of the French Enlightenment personally. She does view them rather critically and sees starting with Voltaire a sort of decline that might be pernicious for France. She gives here several discussions that were supposedly had in the house of the philosopher Holbach and at which were present: Diderot, d Alembert, Galiani, Helvetius, Raynal, Grimm, Morelet and others.

Bemerkung:

- Minor browning and little foxing, binding rubbed, corners and upper spine bumped, but solid.
