832, 832 S. 4°, Orig.-Halblederbände. Erstabdruck des Vorworts zum Erscheinen der Broschüre 'Klassenkämpfe in Frankreich 1848 bis 1850' (Vgl. MEW 22). Zuvor waren im ?Vorwärts? im Artikel ?Wie man heute Revolution macht? Auszüge aus seinem Vorwort zitiert worden. Engels kritisierte in einem Brief an Kautsky, dass er so als ein ?friedfertiger Anbeter der Gesetzlichkeit quand meme? erscheinen würde und verlangte eine vollständige Veröffentlichung in der ?Neuen Zeit?. Das Vorwort erlangte eine gewisse Berühmtheit. Laut MEW 22 verlangte der Vorstand der SPD von Engels, den zu revolutionären Ton der Einleitung abzuschwächen, da die Führung der SPD die Einführung eines neuen ?Sozialistengesetzes? befürchtete. Engels kam der Bitte nach und strich einige Stellen. Die Streichungen blieben jedoch auch dann erhalten, als die Gefahr eines neuen ?Sozialistengesetzes? gebannt war. Insbesondere während der sog. Revisionismus-Debatte mit Bernstein spielte dieses Vorwort ein große Rolle. Eine vollständige Fassung des Vorwortes wurde erst 1930 in der Sowjetunion veröffentlicht. In dem MEW 22 ist ebenso die vollständige Variante abgedruckt und die Streichungen von 1895 gekennzeichnet. - Mit weiteren Erstabdrucken von Engels: F. MEW 22). Previously, in the ?Vorwärts? excerpts from his foreword have been quoted in the article ?How to make a revolution today?. In a letter to Kautsky, Engels criticized the fact that he would appear as a 'peaceful worshiper of legalism quand meme' and demanded a full publication in the 'Neue Zeit'. The foreword gained a certain notoriety. According to MEW 22, the SPD executive asked Engels to soften the overly revolutionary tone of the introduction because the SPD leadership feared the introduction of a new ?Socialist Law?. Engels complied with the request and deleted some passages. The deletions remained, however, even after the danger of a new ?Socialist Law? had been averted. This foreword played a particularly important role during the so-called revisionism debate with Bernstein. A complete version of the foreword was published in the Soviet Union 1930. The complete variant is also printed in the MEW 22 and the deletions from 1895 are marked. - With further first impressions by Engels: F.
