Gutes Ex.; Umschlag berieben. - Englisch. - At the turn of the century, psychoanalysis revolutionized our conceptualization of schizophrenia. Prior to that, schizophrenia was conceived of as a hereditary-constitutional-degenerative disease of the brain. Psychoanalysis taught us to think of schizophrenia in terms of human development. A certain combination of nature and nurture in the first weeks of life results in a deficient capacity for adaptation, which becomes increasingly impaired, eventuating in schizophrenic illness To enunciate this viewpoint, Freud formulated a comprehensive theory of schizophrenia, describing the etiology, the nature of deficient states of adaptive capacity, and the mechanism of symptom formation. Many writers have subsequently contributed to the enrichment of various aspects of that theory. The primary aim of this book is to collate their contributions and to offer a cohesive psychoanalytic theory of schizophrenia. The integrated theory of schizophrenia presented in this book not only offers guidelines for the psychoanalytic treatment of schizophrenic patients, but also provides new systems for subgrouping the schizophrenias. These systems make prognostic evaluation possible and aid in therapeutic planning for a given patient at the time of initial consultation. ? (Verlagstext) // INHALT : ?
