Bibliotheksstempel. - Englisch. - One of the most pressing needs of modern society is to understand and construct organizations that not only are effective in terms of carrying out work but that also allow and encourage people to develop their full human potential. Psychoanalytic theory describes those primary processes that lie at the heart of human activity and provides new insights for understanding group and organizational behaviour. This book presents these theories in plain language and shows their relevance to normal working life. For instance, Freud's unique ideas concerning group behaviour were modified by Melanie Klein and, in turn, influenced Wilfred Bion who produced a theory that emphasized the unconscious processes in a group. General systems theory allowed Eric Trist and others to describe organizations as socio-technical systems and this has made a direct contribution to coal-mining and textile manufacturing. At the same time, Kurt Lewin's concept of group dynamics has resulted in a greater understanding of participation and work organization and from this has emerged a new form of education - T-groups and the 'laboratory' method of learning. The book argues that the prime driving force in any organization is the mental energy present in each individual. ...
