Rituals (Hokenamera) are scenes from traditional Japanese every day life, which more and more disapeard after restoration of the monarchy. With opening of Japan under emporer Meji from the year 1868 on, the 'romantic' time ended aprubt and the western European culture was entering Japan. And with it all the modern inventions, how to produce textiles with machines, umbrellas, pipes and other things of daily life, which replaced the old way of life almost completly. Already at the end of the 19th century the desapearing culture was retained in pictures, to which also belong the 'Hokenamera' made by different Ukiyo-e artists. the beautiful plates show the tender woman in their interiors, at lake contemplingthe flowers, at the laundry, the tee-ceremony etc. - Some plates are loose, some minor stains and sign of being used; binding at the edges damaged.
