Bemerkung:
Einband mit nur leichten Gebrauchsspuren. Ex. Bibl. Exemplar mit Stempeln " ausgeschieden". Sonst sehr gutes Exemplar der ERSTAUSGABE in VIER Bänden. After the Second World War, a new internationalised edition was published from 1955 to 1988 (register volume) under the direction of Siegfried Flügge in 55 volumes (from 78 individual volumes). The languages of publication were German, English, French and the titles were equally German/English. Co-editor of the Mechanik volumes was Clifford Truesdell. Planning began in 1948 under Hermann Mayer-Kaupp (* 1901), who was at Springer Verlag from 1947 to 1973, a close associate of Ferdinand Springer junior and the first publishing director for physics, chemistry and biology. Kaupp brought in Flügge as an advisor in 1948. Another advisor was Paul Rosbaud, who had already been an advisor to Springer before the Second World War and had emigrated to England. He advised to carry out the project together with an English publishing house and was commissioned by Springer in 1952 to look for co-editors to Flügge in England. The candidates found by Rosbaud, possibly influenced by Rosbaud, demanded full control of the project and transfer to Pergamon Verlag, which Springer did not accept. In 1955 the first volumes appeared, now organised from Springer's headquarters in Heidelberg and with Flügge as sole editor. At the end of the 1960s, Flügge withdrew from the editorship and left it to Mayer-Kaupp for the last volumes. This was possibly due to the rapid growth of physics, which disrupted Flügge's original plan.
