Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - The material which is presented here for the first time constitutes the extant diplomatic documents from the Tanjore kings and their ministers to the governor of the Danish colony at Tranquebar and members of his government. There are also a few letters from other persons, including one from the Poona Peshwa Madhava Rava Narayena Pradhana and one from a low official at the Tanjore court. They are all written in the Marathl language and the Modi script. They cover the period from 1725 to 1844 or approximately two thirds of the period in which Marathl was the court language of Tanjore, which is situated in the otherwise non-Indo-Aryan speaking area of India. The 62 original letters preserved in Danish archives and museums represent only a small proportion of the complete correspondence in Marathl and Modi script between the Tanjore court and Tranquebar. They seem, however, to be the only original Tanjore Marathl documents extant in Western collections. ISBN 9783899131062
