Bemerkung:

Erste Ausgabe dieses berühmten Fotobuchs über das nächtliche Paris mit den Fotografien von Brassai (d. i. Gyula Halasz). - Parr/Badger I, S. 134: "Brassai`s nocturnal vision of Paris is so well known, and his book Paris de nuit (Paris by night) has been so influential - the first in a long line of noctambulations by photographers - that someone coming to the volume first time may entertain preconceptions that are not matched by the original ... Paris de nuit is also a ravishing book object in a purely physical sense. The printing represents arguably the most luscious gravure ever seen, the blacks being so rich and deep that after handling the book one expects to find ssoty deposits all over one`s fingers. The graduation tone is wonderfully subtle, describing an apparently infinite range of black and near black tones. The layout with its characteristic fullpage bleeds, never more felicitously employed, takes us from page to page, and across night-time Paris, with effortless panache. Instead of seeing Paris de nuit as a great `might have been`, therefor, one should think of it as amongst the best produced and influential photobooks ever". - Etw. gebräunt.
