Eustathios Makrembolites a Byzantine author of the 12th century was one of the revivalists of the Greek erotic novel. His "De Hysmenes et Hysminiae amoribus" became influential for several modern authors, indirectly also for William Shakespeare's Pericles, Prince of Tyre.
