Full 18th century calf with gilded arms of an Austrian noblemen impressed on both covers IT/ICCU/LO1E/036840 (only 1 copy in Italy); Gamba, novelle 165; Passano 431. Uncommon edition of this collection of anecdotes and short jokes or comic stories, published first in Pavia in 1589 and sometimes reprinted under the title "Solazzo dei viandanti". Interestingly Zabata (circa 1570-1612) gives at the beginning quite an ample catalogue of works that he has used for this anthology. - BOUND WITH: 2. Arlotto Mainardi (il Piovano). Scelta di facetie motti burle et buffonerie. Treviso 1601. 85 num. leaves, (instead of 87; lacking 12 and 13). Cf. Gamba 2723. Uncommon collection of the humorous stories of the Florentine Arlotto (1426-1468). Sadly two leaves not bound in. - The rare Zabata is complete! - PROVENANCE: from the library of Johannes Georg Baron Pichelstorff und Altenburg who owned a large collection of books and built in the early 18th century the castle Dross in the Austrian Waldviertel.

- Trimmed, first title a little cut to the text, some browning, only the first leaves heavier, rubbed and with small worm-holes, gilding faded, still a pretty binding.
