* Erschienen als Privatdruck zum 100-jährigen Jubiläum der Firma. "Plate printing firm, founded as Dixon & Ross in 1833 by Henry and John Dixon (qv) & William Ross (qv). Dixon family dropped out, and by 1876 firm was known as Thomas Ross. His son joined business in 1886, and henceforth called Thomas Ross & Son. From 1905 run by Alfred Pomeroy (a former apprentice), and remained in the Pomeroy family. - As other printers gave up business in the early 20th century, the firm acquired 19th-century and earlier plates and archives from publishers such as Henry Graves (q.v.). In the years after the Second World War Beryl Pomeroy (1922-2005), great-granddaughter of the founder, published new mezzotints by Lawrence Josset and Arthur Hogg, printed in colour by George Hardcastle. In 1956 the master printer Philip McQueen joined the firm bringing with him the stock of his family firm McQueen & Co (q.v.). In the 1960s a new market for new editions of Victorian engravings developed, especially in America." (British Museum).
