Gutes Ex.; Kanten minimal berieben. - Englisch. // INHALT : Introduction ---- Herakles ---- Aias ---- Antigone ---- Oidipous King ---- Elektra ---- Philoktetes ---- Oidipous Suppliant. // This book is intended both for those who read their Sophokles in Greek and for those who read him in translation. All examples from the text are given in translation, with the Greek inserted in transliteration where the exact Greek word is important for a correct understanding of the passage. Numerous quotations and copious line references are given to enable the reader to relate the discussion to the text at each point. The chapters are focused on individual plays. The individual work is the basic unit of organization for literary works. Consequently, it is also the most effective unit of organization for the interpreter. Chapters on such general topics as Greek religion, Sophokles' philosophy, or the concept of the tragic hero have been purposely avoided. Such chapters, which do not deal with the individual plays directly, although they may contain much useful information, in practice tend to be ignored by the reader. In addition, the chapters have been kept relatively short. Long chapters in practice are inevitably skimmed or left unfinished. The attempt to explain everything is self-defeating. ? (Introd.)
