Papierbedingt leicht gebräunt. - Sir Osbert Sitwell is a writer of the most various gifts, yet in each branch of literature to which he devotes himself the same personality is visible and permeates every page. In The Four Continents he reverts to a kind of book of which he has long ago proved himself a master, for many readers will recall with pleasure Escape With Me ! and the earlier Winters of Content and Discursions. As in these last two volumes, Sir Osbert has placed on the title-page the further description Discursions on Travel, Art and Life (the order of this sequence will be noted). Though the new book is a summary of travel during forty years in the four continents of his title - Europe, Asia, Africa and America-much of it relates to the years since the war ended. To this period belongs his interpretation, always sympathetic and affectionate, of developments in the American scene and soul. With that ease of movement in both dimensions of which he alone seems to have the secret, he travels - and takes us with him-in time as much as in space. But more than anything else, it is for the vividness of Sir Osbert's pen that readers will value and enjoy his book, as they follow this most alert, responsive, and individual of travellers to countries near and far.
