Bemerkung:

"Over's book is the most elegant, the most inventive (in a true rococo way) and in many details the most influential of the 'Chinese' pattern books before Chambers. It introduces elements like the parasol, arches of irregular rough stone and the dragon motif, and it anticipates Chambers in calling two designs for a single-span bridge with lattice-work railings respectiveley 'in the Paladion style' and 'in the Chinese taste'... Over's designs for 'dragon boats' were eagerly taken up as were his designs for small garden pavilions in a variety of styles. Just where he derived his basic models from is a mystery, nor do we know anything much about his life or executed works (if any)." (Weinreb, cat. 17, no. 111). * BAL cat. 2346. - Kat.
