Gegenüber der ersten Ausgabe von 1862 um die Ergebnisse eines weiteren "papers" an die "Institution of Engineers in Scotland" erweitert. - "A more thorough investigation of the mechanical properties of materials became of utmost practical importance. Such tests require special equipment, and we shall see that in the period under consideration a rapid growth of material-testing laboratories took place in many countries... One of the first successful examples was that of David Kirkaldy...
