Bemerkung:
Sehr gutes Ex. - Englisch. // This book is the outcome of a project between Christina McBride and I and our journey through Chile and Argentine Patagonia. It began with the concept of aporia, a greek word with multiple meanings through which one can piece together a reflective puzzle of perplexities and doubts. In philosophical terms, the concept signifies a cul-de-sac, an impasse or a seemingly insoluble problem. It arises when there is a contradiction or an equal number of opposite but equally valid conclusions concerning a subject or the understanding of a subject. Aporia has also been called an antonym or a paradox in the sense that the logical and semantic incompatibilities are clear in the premise itself. As soon as it is stated, it contradicts itself: 'Darkdaylight', for example (Christina McBride, 2007). Kafka is one of the best examples of artists who have turned the world into a spectacle full of meaning and who have used this device, whether knowingly or otherwise, as the leitmotif for their works. The more his characters try to interpret and understand the world they live in, the more incomprehensible it becomes. Samuel Beckett's protagonists express no desire to achieve anything, let alone be celebrated for their success. The central character in 'The Unnamable' (L'Innommable, 1953) cannot stop talking and this oscillation between wittering and silence dictates his behaviour. Using a random musical language, the American composer Charles Ives The Unanswered Question' (1908) counterpoints tonality with atonality. The groups of instruments are situated separately, either on- or off-stage and play in different tempos and contrasting styles etc. (Vorwort) ISBN 9783902993193
