Inoue --- Index of Names. // The INSTITUTE OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE HOLOCAUST AND GENOCIDE 1s a non-profit entity devoted to the study of the Holocaust and the genocide of all peoples. The Institute alms at fostering Innovative programs that can contribute to understanding genocide and Its prevention, to whatever extent possible, 1n the future. In June 1982 we conducted the first International Conference on the Holocaust and Genocide In Tel Aviv with the participation of many prominent scholars from across the world who came to present papers in a wide range of academic disciplines. The conference proved to be a highly successful Intellectual and experiential event. It was held, despite major efforts that were made to cancel it by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, following threats by the government of Turkey if the proceedings were to include discussions of the genocide of the Armenians. The Institute now seeks to build on the momentum of the first international conference by moving towards new projects. 1. Publications of the proceedings of the first International conference. 2. Development of an international newsletter which would appear four to six times a year in an easy-to-read format whose pur^ pose will be to present Information about projects on the Holocaust and genocide 1n a way which facilitates the participation and Interaction of scholars, institutes and foundations throughout the world. 3. Development of future International conferences such as on the subjects of the hatred and destructiveness that erupt especially readily between adjacent peoples, and developing new possibilities for the use of mass media, including prof-fessional advertising to "sell" world public opinion on the value of human life and to bring the news of major violations of human rights more immediately and effectively to the world. 4. Creation of an annual program of awards. 5. Development of a Genocide Early Warning System project. The Institute is seeking to develop grants and a permanent endowment which will provide a secure foundation to continue its Initiative. We believe the special conceptions of our conference linking the Holocaust with the genocides of all peoples, bringing together a broad range of mult1-disciplinary work, and most of all emphasizing the translation of memorials into active coping with future holocausts, must be continued ...
