Beschreibung:

Folio. XIII, (1), 360 pp. With a folding coloured map ("Sketch of northern dominions of the Sultan of Zanzibar"). Sewn.

Bemerkung:

Rare British parliamentary papers and correspondence with local agents and officers on the slave trade, including material relating to the importation of African slaves into Arabia through Jeddah and Hodeidah, with a report by Rear-Admiral Cumming that he has "even heard it whispered that some of the slaves sold to the Somalis are retailed by that tribe, the ultimate buyers being the Arabs of the Persian Gulf, and that they are taken by the Gulf of Aden into the Red Sea" (p. 191). Also on the abuse of French flag by dhows, etc. - The map shows a portion of the Somaliland coastline. Slight edge chipping to first few leaves; stamp to t. p.; a good, clean copy. - Bennett 503.
