Alexis Burland. - The understanding of rapprochement, with its conflicts and resolutions, is a major addition to psychodynamic thinking of the past quarter century. Here is the first book to present a clear and complete elaboration of the rapprochement subphase of the separation-individuation process and to clarify its meaning in child development, its role in both child and adult pathology, and its implications for therapy. Although Margaret Mahler's intention was to study the normal separation-individuation process, she inevitably observed pathological deviations, particularly in the outcome of the rapprochement crisis. She reported behavioral outcomes ranging from neurotic symptomatology to narcissistic and borderline phenomena, and showed that an unresolved rapprochement crisis creates fixation points and intrapsychic conflict that affect the oedipal resolution. The book opens with Mahler's seminal paper, "Rapprochement Subphase of the Separation-individuation Process." Here are presented her conceptualizations, methodology, and observations of infant behavior. // Separation-Individuation: An Organizing Principle by Gertrude and Rubin Blanck - The Primal Matrix Configuration by Bernard L.
