The study gives a complete description of each of Powys' works, his contributions to books, and significant works about him. In listing entries, the bibliographer has personally examined each publication and has described each accurately, indicating variations in format, binding, and text where variations occur. Powys' publishers were consulted, and, when still available, their information on the texts has been included. The publications of the Powys family and friends of the family have been checked for pertinent information on John Cowper Powys' attitudes toward his texts, progress from concept through final copy, and his relationships with his publishers, American and English. In several instances significant differences between American and English texts have been carefully indicated.
