Umschlag leicht berieben, sonst gutes Exemplar. - Der (wenige) Text englisch und japanisch. - We began our project by identifying typography as the art and science of communicating information through text. Our review of typography from this esthetic aspect was prompted by the inception of the Design Year. Visual Communication has rapidly advanced since the invention of printing by J. Gutenberg some 550 years ago, to a point where it now transcends national boundary race and language. People have dubbed this the age of hformation. What is attractive information? What is definitive communication? Creators from around the world responded to these queries posed by Evolution Graphics. The book amassed 2,566 samples of work from around the world, from countries as far afield as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, America, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Britain, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Holland and the Soviet Union. In particular a large volume of New Wave Typography works were submitted from Britain and Holland. In undertaking the selection editing for this book we have attempted to faithfully and attractively portray the furious whirlpool of the world's typography in 1991. The advent of new technology desk top publishing has resulted in the liberal use by our society of the term "information revolution," such that maintaining an inquiry hto the esthetics and formation for graphic design has become an exceedingly difficult task. Nevertheless, it is precisely at such a juncture that we have published this book, typography from around the world, exploring the new territory of the modern ethos while forming a grounding for new presentation techniques.
