The volume discusses the nature, development and maintenance of phobias and considers some new methods of treatment. Much of this work falls within the scope of new treatment techniques collectively known as "behavioral therapy." The experimental and clinical evidence relating to the efficacy of behavioral methods in dealing with phobias is described and evaluated--it is concluded that the appropriate utilization of these methods, particularly desensitization, will help to bring about a substantial improvement in current therapy. A notable feature of the book is its detailed consideration of the experimental basis for new methods. (Verlagstext)
