Bemerkung:

Umschlag leicht berieben. Papierbedingt leicht gebräunt. - Of the seventy-six novels written by Pio Baroja, the twenty-two volumes of Memorias de un hotnbre de action (1913-1935) have received by far the smallest amount of critical attention. The novels chronicle the adventures of Eugenio Aviraneta Ibargoyen, a minor Spanish historical figure whose career spanned roughly the first half of the nineteenth century, encompassing such events as the Spanish Napoleonic Wars, the struggle between Absolutists and Liberals during the reign of Fernando VII and the regent Maria Cristina, the First Carlist War, and the eruption of the Second Carlist War during the reign of Isabel II. Baroja's laborious investigation of historical documents and materials of all kinds in preparation for the series and his dedication of twenty-two of his greatest years of artistic productivity to the writing of these works, indicate the seriousness with which the author regarded the project.
