Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Reproductive medicine is a newly developed branch of medicine. One of its subsections, andrology, was established nearly 25 years ago in Hamburg. In 1987, a symposium was organized at Hamburg, to honour the pioneering work of Carl Schirren in this respect. In this symposium, recent data were presented by invited speakers from several countries as well as by scientists from Hamburg who are engaged in research in reproductive medicine. Forty three papers were presented covering the entire area of basic research in reproductive medicine, with special reference to andrology and gynaecological endocrinology. Emphasis was placed not only on current information concerning morphological, physiological and clinical studies in reproduction but also on future perspectives of reproductive medicine and its sociopolitical implications.
